In which Priscilla learns a thing or two about Shan.

The detail about Priscilla’s shirt caught my eye on this reading: one of those little things that might escape one’s notice if one hadn’t got the background detail about the way she used to dress back on Sintia.

It appears that there are, after all, creatures other than the norbears in the pet library; though I confess I haven’t the slightest idea what a sylfok might be.

I somehow always assumed that was referring to the norbears. Now that you mention it, I really don’t know where that impression came from, but there it is.

For some reason “sylfok” seems to me to be a contraction of “sylvan folk,” which could refer to any denizens of the woods/forests. Or could refer to a type of spirit that frequents groves or woods. Whether it is intended to refer to the norbears, I have no clue.

My second time through, I am somewhat convinced that the reference to sylfok cannot mean the norbears. Why would norbears need to be “tamed,” as Pricilla says? There’s never been any indication that norbears are anything but “tame.” They are not dangerous to humans AND they interact with humans without fear.
