The Gathering Edge – Chapter 11

Bechimo

In which Bechimo’s crew welcomes the survivors.

That’s a nice wielding of melant’i Kara does toward the end of the chapter, reinforcing her recommendation by giving it, with appropriate variations, from under several different hats.

As balance for the scene where one of the Pathfinders called for quiet with a gesture that wasn’t quite finger on lip, here we have the Pathfinders seeing someone using finger on lip and having to figure out what it indicates.

There’s some food for speculation in the Pathfinders’ reactions to Theo. The first one is probably because her appearance doesn’t match their expectations (if nothing else, I expect they expected someone less young). The second one, after she mentions having talked to others of the Troop, I’m less confident about, but might be because it’s the first confirmation they’ve had that the Troop exists in this new universe in person and not just in memory.

Hevelin’s interest in Grakow persists, and apparently is reciprocated.

At this point in the story (the first time through), I had no idea that Hevelin’s interest was anything more than just one animal’s curiosity about another.
