Accepting the Lance – Chapter 52

Six of Us
Daiellen System

In which the universe perseveres.

So, Sye Mon and Bon Vit did travel away to find the Old Tech devices, then returned to the Daiellen Sector when the war machines started heading this way.

And now it’s beginning to look like they might just as easily have stayed home, which is a bit disappointing, dramatically speaking. Unless it was Sye Mon’s attempts to nudge them off course that got the ball rolling for the Assembly’s convocation.

If some of Sye Mon’s group of Old Tech vessels are in need of timonium, they may be able to cadge some from Stone Ronin, who appears to have timonium to spare. (Depending on just how much they need, of course, which I am not sufficiently an expert on timonium to guess.)

PA: then returned to the Daiellen Sector when the war machines started heading this way. Also, it seems clear that the machines they gathered (or at least that they had roused) to come “fight with others of their kind” now have a mind of their own, both figuratively and literally.

My recollection is that we don’t ever (in the remainder of this book) hear anything further about a source of timonium for them, although I too had thought of Stone Ronin’s collection. However, Stone Ronin seems similar in his way to Yulie Shaper: an eccentric loner whose social interactions are a bit unpredictable. I was expecting the need for timoniumit to be a plot point, but then it was pretty much dropped . . . for now.

@Stone Ronin – nice way of showing how far Bechimo had come by now. No more talk of mere ships or such. In fact his opinion of intelligence has made quite a turn around.
