Accepting the Lance – Chapter 76

The Bedel

In which the ship is on its way.

Udari said earlier that he thought Pulka would choose to go when it came to it, but given his frame of mind at the beginning of this chapter the question may be still open.

We know it’s not going to happen this time, since some have already committed to leaving, but I wonder what would happen if all the kompani, aside from the two who have no choice, chose to stay.

Paul: if all the kompani . . . chose to stay

From what is said here, it sounds as if it could be done, since this kompani seems to have the technology and needed parts for dreaming themselves into the tiles. btw, are these “tiles” the same as “fractins”?

Meanwhile, I was left with a nagging curiosity about this “compiling unit” Rafin had found. Pulka is thinking that they might use it to print a number of components that had never been found, which would handily put three more found devices into operation. Pulka frankly had no notion what the purpose of one of those machines could be . . .

Three “found” devices? This term suggests that these might be three more devices that were originally sheriekas made that the Bedel have “pulled the teeth” from to make them safe. I want to know what they are!
