Crystal Dragon – Chapter 12

Elsewhen and Otherwhere

In which Rool Tiazan and his lady are overtaken by that which pursues them.

Like so much that happens with the dramliz in this novel, I don’t much understand the details of what just happened.

I might get a better grip on it when Rool Tiazan and his lady show up again (which, this being a prequel, we know they will). But I kind of suspect I won’t.

Yes, I agree about the puzzlement. How, if Rool Tiazan’s essence unravels and his lady shatters under a blow from the Iloheen, do we get to see them again? Very tricksy, dramliz happenings that the rest of us are not likely to understand completely.

Curious that…in contrast to the chill of death that precedes the presence of the Iloheen…that even as Rool and his Lady ran from the Enemy, the sick were healed, the dead were raised, water was turned into wine.

As far as I know, we have had no explanation or even theories about why Rool’s essence seems so similar to the Tree’s.

Before the unraveling and the shattering by the Iloheen at the end of this chapter, we’re told that Rool sent his essence to her in a tide of living green. I can only imagine/infer that we are to understand that the idea of “green” always represents “life” (as opposed to the Iloheen’s frozen perfection/death).

*refer also to chapter 35, the Tree’s contribution to their transition.
