New short story

Sharon Lee and Steve Miller have published another new Liaden story.

Roving Gambler is set on Surebleak, and features Pat Rin’s heir, Quin.

I’ve added it to the schedule here, but it’s not going to come up for over a year, so please go ahead and read it at whatever time suits you. (And if you do, and thereby gain a more precise understanding of when it’s set than I did by skimming the first page, I would appreciate it if you would let me know.)

Have been reading along with you in more or less same order , reading Liad for umpteenth time and have a question really not comment but have nowhere else to ask it.
I read a comment once that suggested Jen Sar Kiladi was a reference to something – have been diligently searching the texts with no luck – can anyone help?
    Many thanks

Do you mean a reference by the authors to something outside the series, or that Daav’s choice of name is a reference to something else within the series?

I thinkI saw a mention that Daav’s choice of name was a joke because it referenced something within the series.

I recall two comments on Jen Sar – one is that the name is very old (Jen Sar or Kiladi or both ?) and that it may be a Scout joke. Whether it is a Scout joke of the name or his existence I am not sure. Being created on a bet would seem a Scout joke to be sure, but Daav is tricksy and wouldn’t do anything for one reason when 6 would do . I would give you more specific references if I had them to hand.

Regarding the timing of Roving Gambler, it’s definitely after Necessity’s Child and Ghost Ship. Quin is living with Pat Rin and Natesa and undergoing pilot training and other such studies. The port on Surebleak is being recertified and upgraded, so I would guess we are about as recent in the Universe as can be.
