Neogenesis – Chapter 6 part III

In which Hazenthull has not taken Tolly at his word.

That’s two chapters in a row that’s had discussion of what Jump feels like to a ship. I wonder if it’s going to become important, or if it was just something the authors decided to put in in case anyone was wondering.

Another thing we’ve had twice this story is AIs being able to tell that the person they’re observing is experiencing high emotion, but lacking the data to ascertain which emotion it is. Admiral Bunter is not sure why the news about Hazenthull is so distressing to Tolly; a human reader could probably make a more confident guess.

And speaking of confident guesses, Tolly’s reaction suggests I may have been right in my guess about Haz maybe not being able to get away from Nostrilia as easily as she got there, though I was worried she’d be trapped without anyone knowing what had happened to her, not expecting that she’d send a message to Admiral Bunter like this. Worse comes to worst, Tolly and Admiral Bunter might have to go to Nostrilia after all, as a rescue mission. At least Inkirani’s provided them with a perfect set-up to try the old “I’m just bringing in this completely harmless prisoner” trick…
