In which Tarona Rusk prepares to close her accounts.

Well, it looks like I was wrong about Tarona’s intentions.

In retrospect, I think I failed to give proper weight to how much she was affected by what happened to Sondi. And looking back at her last conversation in this book with Kethi vay’Elin, I get the feeling that Healer vay’Elin might at least suspect Tarona’s intention but also can tell that she’s not going to get anywhere if she pushes the question.

I am, however, disinclined to believe that this is the end of this story. It would be a disappointing place for the story to end, after the time the authors have spent fleshing out Tarona as a person. (And it would make Kethi vay’Elin sad, which I don’t want.)

Also, the part of me that makes predictions based on dramatic structure is insistently noting that we now have two powerful workings building to a climax simultaneously, in a story where spooky action at a distance has been a Thing. It’s going to be confused if they don’t end up interacting somehow.
