Trader’s Leap – Chapter 32

Colemeno Port
Great Hall

In which it may be accounted misfortune to lose one kinsperson, but two looks like carelessness.

Betya seelyFaire’s account of her ancestor’s reasons for coming to the Redlands have a noticeable resonance with Dyoli’s reasons for doing likewise.

It appears that, after all, Moonhawk and Lute are the Oracle’s Great Ones, not Dyoli and Mar Tyn. Or perhaps it’s that Moonhawk and Lute and Dyoli and Mar Tyn are Great Ones? I don’t think the Oracle ever actually specified how many Great Ones were coming. It might be just Moonhawk and Lute — I thought of Dyoli and Mar Tyn at least partly because the Oracle spoke of the Great Ones settling down on Colemeno, but depending on what exactly is about to happen to them, that might apply to Moonhawk and Lute too. (And there was that bit where Kencia afrinBorer’s gift identified the Great Ones as gods.)

I’m not sure where the Passage’s security team are while their captain and master trader are disappearing. I think I have it right that they stayed with the shuttle and that the security people who preceded the delegation into the hall (and then “faded from conscious sight”) were the Portmaster’s escort.

Tekelia is having a lot of fun tweaking Bentamin about this.

I’m not sure how much Tekelia’s professed faith in Shan’s ability is just to tease Bentamin, and how much is genuine; Tekelia doesn’t know Shan, but the fact that he’s Padi’s father might be considered sufficient recommendation. It also occurs to me that I wouldn’t be surprised if Tekelia has more idea where Shan is, despite him being invisible, than they’ve chosen to let on.
