    “Incident packed” is right.

What struck me was how much the tree participated. For something with roots, it seems to have a good understanding of more active types. Just how much did dragons associated with trees quarrel?

  2. Jelala Alone

In prior chapter, the attack on Cantra was particularly vicious. They were killing her. I don’t think much of Uncle, and why would Dulsey stay with him? Some friend. In future books, especially in Dragon Ship, they are portrayed in a more kindly light, and I suppose people can change in 1400 years, but I’m reluctant to trust.

So sweet, how Jela and Tree strove to heal Cantra.

Jelala Alone: particularly vicious. They were killing her.

If it could be true that the actual attack on Jela and Cantra…once they succeeded in getting past the Uncle’s doors…was not specifically ordered by Uncle, then perhaps the fanatics in his group thought that no one who had found their hideout ought to be allowed to leave alive…at least that’s what I think we must suppose, right?

Therefor I really believe that he would have led Cantra go unharmed. Also he wished to have Jela alive, even against his will, but if pressed he would have preferred to let him go unharmed instead of taking the chance of making such an enemy.

On the other hand he might have been well aware that some of his group had more fanatical tendencies and taken the opportunity of Jela’s and Cantra’s unsuspecting help with identifying the individuals of that group. Especially if it also gave him a performance test of an M’s fighting skills as well as the fighting skills of his group.

What Uncle properly has ordered was the inspection of Cantra’s ship. And he certainly wasn’t prepared for Jela’s as well as the Tree’s reaction. I have no trouble seeing him annoyed about that – and thusly distracted and a bit slow in controlling his subordinates or a bit more willing to put Jela and Cantra at risk.

The Uncle allowing this kind of performance test on Jela and Cantra seems a bit similar to what the Uncle did to Theo in order to wake her full capabilities. Or at least to what he answered Daav about his involvement with Theo.
Also Uncle seems to be more reckless than in later stories.
