Carpe Diem – Chapter 19

Liad
Envolima City

In which Tyl Von sig’Alda seeks that which is lost.

The tour of the plot strands continues.

This is the only time I can recall Envolima City being mentioned. Most things that happen on Liad happen either in Solcintra or Chonselta.

The description of Korval as pursuing its own interests to the incidental benefit of Liad makes an interesting contrast to the Department of the Interior, which as will become apparent considers itself as working for the good of Liad but when it comes down to it defines “the good of Liad” as that which is good for the Department.

Until I read all the other books and stories and started in on a second read of everything, I didn’t even notice this city name. This time through, I marked my book to come and make that exact same comment about Envolima City. Where did it come from, and where did it go?

    And…on another note entirely:

Never in the memory of the longest Rememberer had any of Korval loosed a vessel of their own will, excepting, perhaps, the very ship of the Migration.

Oh, really? Korval gave up Quick Passage? When and why? Do we know anything else about this? Paul, do you have any speculations?

We find out in a later book that Korval still has Quick Passage, although hidden away and not among its public fleet. So perhaps it’s not generally known that Korval still has it or where it is, and sig’Alda is saying that since he doesn’t know what happened to it, Korval might have disposed of it.
